Looking at
the cost of college today, I will be needing all of the scholarships provided. The
cost of education has reached an all-time high and it has become difficult for
those struggling financially to attend their dream university. Many of them are
left out in the cold because they afford the cost of education. The cost of
education really hits hard for those in the middle class today, because
although those in the middle class aren't poor they struggle in trying to
afford college. Many people are able to receive sports scholarships and some
even attend the military and then go to college in order to receive military
benefits to afford college. But what about those students who don’t have these
options? Many other students then have to depend on student loans which would
later lead to more debt in the future. What needs to be done to make it easier
for people today to afford college?
In this article economist try to compare the cost of education to inflation and health care. During a survey there was a chart that showed how the cost of education began rising from the late 1990’s to the 2000’s and then during 2014 it began to rapidly rise. The total inflation during this period of time was recorded to be 2.3%, health care had risen to 3.7%, and the education expenses rose to 5.2%. Many people are becoming concerned with how fast that the education cost is rising and it is predicted that if it keeps rising at the rate it is college tuition will be 65,000 dollars plus for in state public colleges and over 200,000 dollars for private institutions.
If the cost of college begins to increase many people are going to not attend college because they can’t afford it. This would only lead to more problems for the world because one education rates are going to fall and there would be lost wages. Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders wants to help in decreasing the college debt. If he becomes president, he hopes to make college free in order to help those that want to receive a great education but can’t afford it. If this is the case the problem, we would face is higher taxes in order to pay for college.
This is becoming a big problem and there needs to be something done in order to lower the cost of college. Everyone should have equal opportunity to attend the college they want to and not have to worry about the cost.
